What We’ve Done
Over the last 8 years, we have raised and invested $325,000 in 200 projects across the Lehigh Valley. Because we provide small grants and require matching funds, our investment of $325,000 has leveraged over $6.5 million in 24 communities. A 20x return on investment is one that all of us love to see and it shows how far a small amount of money invested in a project that the community owns and wants can make a little money go a long way! To date, the projects we have supported in downtowns include banners, murals, holiday decorations, police bicycles, gazebos, planters, landscaping, trail signs, festivals, community events, tree well surrounds, lighting, farmers markets, “open” flags, pole banners, fountains, benches, playgrounds and other streetscape and beautification projects. Through targeted investments in urban planning, sidewalk beautification, façade improvement and streetscape design; we are improving every main street in the Lehigh Valley – one project at a time. With parks, housing, restaurants, retail, and arts all in one place — each downtown becomes a destination to visit with things to see and do — a hub of activity honoring the area’s heritage. Our program is successful because communities present these projects to us having already secured at least a 50% financial match to our grant, ensuring that the community is truly invested in the success of each project. Matching dollars are raised from holding bake sales, car washes, 5K runs and other fundraisers to support revitalization projects in their downtown and surrounding traditional neighborhoods. This model creates grass roots coordination, community investment and, most importantly, community pride.
